When we think of Turkey, we think of popular destinations such as Bodrum, Fethiye, and the great city of Istanbul. However, there are many less well-known gems. For those interested in holidaying in Turkey, or perhaps finding property for sale in Turkey, consider Dalaman. There are many terrific Dalaman properties for sale, as well as many beautiful places to visit in the local area.
Dalaman is both a town and a district within Muğla Province, which is located to the south-west of the country and sits directly beside the beautiful Aegean Sea. Despite this attractive quality, Dalaman often sits in the shadow of other regions around south-west Turkey. It’s geographically close to aforementioned tourist hotspots Bodrum and Fethiye, while it has the second largest airport in the region behind the more heavily used Antalya Airport. Despite this, Dalaman is becoming one of the best places to live in Turkey for UK expats. This is partly due to Dalaman being a suntrap – especially during the summer months – that has led it to hold the record for highest recorded air temperature across the whole of Turkey. There is even an annual average of over 8 hours of sunshine per day in Dalaman – an astonishing figure. As you can probably tell, this is why Dalaman properties for sale are so popular. However, it’s not the only reason why people are turning to Dalaman. It is also home to some of the most wonderful locations not just across south-west Turkey, but also across the whole of Turkey itself. So, without further ado, here are four of the most amazing locations to see around the Dalaman area:
Let’s start with the Sultaniye Hot Springs. Located in nearby Lake Köyceğiz, these thermal waters are very popular. Even Sting and the late David Bowie were known to have relaxed in the hot springs. Or, why not try the rejuvenating mud baths? While heading to this area, you’ll come across our second location: the Lycian rock tombs. These historic ruins date back to fourth century BC when they were under the ownership of the Kings of Ancient Lycia. Built into the cliffs, they are an astonishing sight to behold. For those buying Dalaman property, you’re going to want more than just tourist locations though. One of these places is the quiet Sarigerme Beach, located to the west of Dalaman Airport. The sand and water is absolutely pristine, which is thanks to it being under the control of an organisation that works to keep the area in such terrific condition. The last option is a little bit further to the west, but it is worth seeing: Sedir Adasi, also known as Cleopatra Island. It is simply beautiful, and there is so much to explore: olive groves, beaches, and ruins. Cleopatra and her lover Marc Antony seemed to agree – it is said that they used to bathe on its beaches.
But these are just some of the places you will experience if you come to look at property in Turkey. There are many more wonderful locations that you’ll want to revisit again and again once you find your dream home amongst the extraordinary Dalaman properties for sale today.
